The Color By Number module in Puzzle Maker Pro allows you to create visually engaging, customizable coloring puzzles. This module enables users to transform images into structured, color-guided puzzles with various grid shapes and color settings. Whether you’re designing puzzle books, educational worksheets, or marketing materials, this tutorial will walk you through the essential steps to get started.

Preparation

Before starting, ensure you have:

  • JPG or PNG images.
  • Puzzle Maker Pro installed and updated.
  • A general idea of the puzzle design (grid shape, color palette, and style preferences).

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Import Images

  1. Open Puzzle Maker Pro and navigate to the Color By Number module.
  2. Locate the Content tab.
  3. Drag and drop one or more images (JPG/PNG) into the panel OR click “Add Files” to browse and select images.
  4. Once uploaded, a preview of the puzzle will be generated with default settings.
  5. Using the “Create” button, you can save the current puzzle in several file formats

Step 2: Adjust Grid Settings

  1. Open the Settings tab.
  2. Choose a grid type:
    • Squares
    • Circles
    • Hexagons
    • Triangles
    • Octagons
  3. Adjust Row Count or Row Height (Column count will be automatically determined).

Step 3: Configure Color Settings

  1. Under the Color Settings section, choose a Color Palette:
    • Auto (automatically detects the most frequently used colors in the image).
    • Custom (manually define your own colors).
  2. Set Max Colors (limits the number of colors used in the puzzle).
  3. Use the Color Grid to fine-tune colors:
    • Click individual color swatches to edit.
    • Use “Randomize” or “Reset” to adjust color distribution.
  4. Enable Print Palette if you want to display the color palette on the puzzle.
  5. Position the palette (Top, Left, Bottom, or Right).

Step 4: Define Region Options

  1. Choose how same-color grid cells are handled:
    • No Regions (cells remain separate, no visual grouping).
    • Outlined Regions (adds borders around same-color groups).
    • Use Color Regions (merges same-color areas into larger shapes).
    • Note: Region borders are not available for circles and octagons.

Step 5: Customize Style

  1. Navigate to the Style tab.
  2. Adjust the following settings:

Step 6: Branding Options

To use the Branding options, first select “Use Branding” on the main Output Settings tab. Click the “Set Branding” button to set generic branding options, and save these as a preset. (Use the name “Default” for the preset to make it the default setting for Branding).

  1. Open the Branding tab for Color By Number.
  2. Customize the Title:
    • Use Image Folder Name, Image File Name, or a Custom Title.
    • Type your own Custom Title
  3. Set a Description using the same options as the title.

Step 7: Preview and Save

  1. Use Next Preview to generate a new puzzle preview with the latest settings.
  2. Select Puzzle, Solution, or Both in the preview options.
  3. Click Create to generate and save the puzzle(s).
    • If multiple images are uploaded, set the number of puzzles to be created.
